dont know if this is the right place for this question, if not apologies!
I am here in Australia for 2 years and I like to go on road trips in the weekends. I could buy a normal car but I prefer a 4WD to be able to go off road. It will not be hardcore but I want to be able to go on the beach and do some easy 4WD tracks.
Problem is that my budget is limited (<5000, I know it will be hard to find something that will last for 2 years....) and my knowledge of cars is limited as well. I googled a lot and gained some knowledge and I am thinking of buying a patrol or something similar. I looked at ebay, gumtree and carsales.com.au. I am wondering if anyone in the club who likes to help me out with advise and tips and maybe even wants to come along with an inspection.
thanks
Danny

For that money you would get a GQ Petrol Patrol will outlast 2 years and do everything you want, downside is they chew fuel like crazy....You might get lucky and find a diesel for another couple of $1000

I drive a Nissan Terrano, the turbo diesel Pathfinder, you can easily find models under 5k. I bought mine off of Tony in the club, I average 12l/100km and despite being IFS, I haven't had any trouble getting anywhere my best mate in an 80 series has.
Thanks. I was looking at the Terrano as well! Just havent found one yet with a service logbook. I found one that looked nice but the seller wasnt happy with getting the vehicle checked out by a mechanic so that was a bummer. I keep searching but if anyone comes across something than let me know
