We were supposed to be leaving on a 3 week trip with the van today, but unfortunately we are still here and writing entries on the forum page.
The Saturday before last I jumped into the Patrol and it stalled and was then difficult to start. When it did start the immobiliser light on the top of the dash stayed on. I was eventually stranded at work and the RACQ man came and eventually got me going. The ommobiliser light went out after a couple of minutes and then on the way home came on for a couple of minutes and then went out.
Monday morning the car started and again the light came on so I decided it was time to go and see Mr Nissan.
I left the car with them and they rang me early afternoon and told me the problem was a diode in the key. They would have to get one from Melbourne and they had missed today's run so it would be there on Wednesday.
Wednesday afternoon at about 4.45pm they rang and said they hadn't had a chance to get onto the car but would on Thursday. At that time I asked if the part had arrived and was told "I believe so"
Thursday 11.30am I got a phone call, "Bit of a communication breakdown and the part hasn't been ordered, but we have now and it will arrive Friday".
Friday 1.30pm I rang and was told the diode had been replaced and they were now reprograming the key, he would ring me soon. At 4.45pm another phone call car still not working correctly with the new part fitted will have to do more tests next week.
Monday 3.00pm I again spoke to them and was told the wiring had all been checked and it now appeared to be a problem with another diode on the fuel pump. The Nissan one comes complete fuel pump and diode for over $2000 but they had sourced a diode by itself locally only about $500.00 plus the $500.00+ for the diode that didn't work.
Oh the joys of motor vehicle ovnership.

Particularly if it's the oil pressure switch causing the problem as can happen. |

Thats not good Noel. Sounds like a bit of a run around which is frustrating. Keep us posted on the end result of the problem if you can - might be helpful to others who may encounter similar problem.

The saga continues. It now appears that the locally sourced part is locally available in Adelaide. It might arrive Wednesday or Thursday, my fear is that this still won't fix the problem

Still it goes on. Latest development is the part arrived yesterday afternoon, now they can't get if off the car. Might have to remove the injector pump which is a 6 hours job, off and back on. I have been told we will be lucky to get the car back before the weekend.
Oh the joy.

Noel,
Sorry to hear about your ongoing drama with Nissan, the whole saga does nothing to reinforce our, perhaps misplaced loyalty, to the product.
It would surely have driven a lesser man than yourself to imbibe in the demon drink. Stay strong and keep on top, remember what Malcolm Fraser said?
Thanks for sharing your story on the forum. |

No, what did Malcolm Fraser say?
Still don't have the car back, have it on "good authority?" we'll get it back Tuesday now because of the public holiday.

The problem still goes on. Last week when they couldn't get the part off the injector and was told that they would get some guy whose business it is removing hard bolts to come. On Friday afternoon told he was there and had removed one and was working on the second, but we wouldn't get it back before the weekend which meant Tuesday, because of the public holiday. At around 2.00pm on Tuesday I contacted them and was told it would be ready in two hours. I went down about 4.15 and waited. At 5.20 was told he still had an hours' work so we would have to wait until Wednesday, but the mechanic was working back to finish the job. I oontacted them at 11.00am and was told the initial problem has been fixed but they now have some air leaks and some hoses were on the wrong way. At 3.30 contacted them again and told we now have some pipes on the intercooler leaking so they were fixing that so we won't get it back now until at least tomorrow but won't give me a time because he has been wrong so many times.
How to waste one and a half weeks holiday.

Finally got the car back this afternoon. It goes and the immobiliser light is working correctly. I also got a new battery out of them because they had taken the battery out of the car and apparently a guy from Century Batteries comes through on Tuesdays, he saw my battery on the floor and thought it was no good so disposed of it. So we have a new battrery in the car although the last one was only about 8 months old, I had changed it in Albany WA.
