Hi every body i have a 1990 shorty mave 4.2 petrol auto about a month ago the power light started flashing when i started it & it did it everytime i started it well the other day i was towing a trailor about to get on the freeway the gearbox kicked back when i hit 80klms but when i put my foot down to get speed to get on the freeway i lost all gears i mean every think was thinking of cutting my losses & selling it due to new car 2006 ss thunder crewman but thought i,d try to fix the old girl up as for the whole 8yrs i had her she never let me down so if any one can help it would be much appreciated cheers |

its auto im guessing, sounds like the auto was either low on fluid and burnt out or has broken/bent the blades in the stall convertor |

Yes it is auto i already said that no not low on fluid only used nissan d matic fluid in it & it had the external oil cooler on it.Would it be cheaper to convert it to manual.If any one has got a spare auto or full manual conversion i would be very interested in it.

Sounds like the gearbox needs a service, At that age I presume a few miles has been clocked and the box is showing it's age!

It also helps if you avoid driving through deep mud holes in 2wd right Col!!!

The hole drive train has just 189,000klms on it thats all it has travelled still does any one now were i can get a auto or manual conversion for it the gearbox repairers want $4,500 for a reco auto down here on the central coast |

I would suggest ringing around your local wreckers for a second hand auto, then get your mechanic to install it for you (if you can't do it yourself).
Doing a manual conversion would be a lot more expensive as you would need so many additional parts, and the extra labour involved to fit it all.
