Hi folks,
Two weeks ago at the Railway Station, I found my spare tyre cover torn and on the grass behind the GQ.
My first thought was vandals, however when sighting the rear of the vehicle, I found the spare had burst like a balloon.
The tyre had split straight across the tread and closest to the small barn door. Although there was at least 50% tread still unworn, the tyre was at least 6 years old and came with the truck in March 2007.
Of greatest significance was the fact that the steel cords which encircle the outer circumference of the tyre had parted as though by a guillotine stroke.
These cords measured 250-300 mms in length.
How many of us have stood with our faces/eyes this close to the spare tyre on the back of the beast, supping an Ale or going to the fridge.
According to my tyre fitter it happens quite often, the constant sun on the tyre plus old age are the prime culprits. Also the practise of using the spare as an air reservoir by over inflation.
I just thought it was a cheap lesson to pass on to the club.
Kind regards Andy D.
